Frequently Asked Questions

How long are the sessions and how many do I need?

Sessions are 50 minutes for adults and 45 minutes for minors.

The number of sessions is dependent on what your goals are, the severity of what is happening and your budget and timeframe. All this can be discussed over our initial 10 minute phone call.

What is your policy regarding confidentiality?

Everything you tell me is completely confidential except in cases of:

  • Intent and plan to seriously hurt yourself or someone else.
  • Child physical, sexual or severe emotional abuse.
  • Dependent or elderly adult abuse.
  • A subpoena from a judge.

Do you have a therapy model you use?

I use different models to treat different presenting problems. For instance, I use Restoration Therapy for couples therapy and to address emotional regulation and conflict resolution. I use aspects of CBT and DBT to treat depression and anxiety and I use Solution Focused Therapy to motivate quick changes in behavior.

You mention church and faith elsewhere on the website- would we be a good fit if I'm not Christian?

Yes, we can still be a good fit. Talking about faith, especially my faith, does not enter the therapy room unless a client wants to talk about it. A client would never experience proselytizing or judgment of values or lifestyle based on my beliefs. Not only would that be bad therapy, but it would be unethical.

If we meet in person in your office, what health precautions are you taking?

I am fully vaccinated so masks are not necessary in my office unless you prefer them.

My office has a HEPA air purifier and there is 6′ of the distance between the chair I sit in and the couch you sit on.

All shared surfaces are frequently sanitized.

If any of my clients have any symptoms of illness they are asked to stay home and do a Zoom session if they are well enough. I too would cancel an in-person session if I had any symptoms of an illness.

Do you have a sliding scale or take insurance?

I do not do a general sliding scale, however, I do offer special rates for premarital therapy and for pastoral staff.

I do not take insurance, but I recommend you contact your insurance and see how much they reimburse you for seeing an “out-of-network Marriage and Family Therapist”.

What if my spouse doesn't want to do therapy with me?

Our work can focus on the changes you can make in the marriage and often that starts to motivate your spouse to want to change as well. Frequently the spouse will want to join the therapy sessions once they see the effectiveness of our work.

Are you married and do you have kids?

Yes! My wife’s name is Aubri and she is the most faith-filled, beautiful, intentional, and generous woman I know. We have a son, Rider, who, in my totally biased opinion, is the cutest kid ever. We also have a dog, Kodiak, who is my hiking, mountain biking and paddleboarding buddy.
